Vaccine for Corona by August 15?

With the launch of Coronil and it's claim as a Vaccine to the Novel Corona Virus, the concept of Vaccine in India has been quite jolly.

With the 6.2 Lakh confirmed cases of Novel Corona Virus in India, everyone is uttering nothing but these exact words " When will we have a  vaccine?"

In a recent development ,ICMR chief Dr Balram Bhargav in a letter has told all the medical institutions , chosen for Vaccine Trials to ensure that all the phases should be completed by August 15 .Yes you heard it right by 15  August.

As per recent reports, Covaxin is BBIL’s vaccine candidate to immunise people against Covid-19 which is developed in collaboration with h ICMR’s National Institute of Virology (NIV). ICMR plans to make the vaccine available to general public by August 15.

As per a letter dated July 2, he stated " This is the first indigenous vaccine being developed by lndia and is one of the top priority projects which is being monitored at the topmost level of the Government,” he stated. Any non-compliance would be viewed “seriously”.

What is the current development in vaccine?

The company registered its vaccine candidate for two trials on on July 1 . The Clinical Trial Registry of India shows there is plan to test a total of 1,125 people during these trials and the first enrollment of subjects for this trial is on July 13.According to the registry, it is estimated that the first phase of the trial is supposed to take at least a month which is nearly mid August.

Is this possible?

Many experts are skeptical of the possibility of this happening as to fast tracking to such an extent and concluding all the three phases in just a month and a half. The AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine has already progressed to the Phase-III trials stage, and this will, in the best case scenario, only be available towards the end of the year. Pfizer has started giving vaccines of mid and low level dosages to  it's patients.Pfizer expects the launch of the vaccine by the end of the year.

So it is highly unlikely that the vaccine is available by 15 August and even if it's available it is surely going to raise many questions and concerns.
Let's hope we reach a breakthrough for this and soon.
